Position Scope The Chief Database Geoscientist bridges database infrastructure/management with exploration workflows. They customize procedures and database structures to align with exploration team needs while leading a team of database geoscientists to ensure data integrity, quality, and accessibility.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure geological data integrity, quality, and adherence to QA/QC protocols.
- Integrate exploration software (e.g., Fusion, LeapFrog) with SQL Server.
- Design and update data collection procedures, formats, and workflows.
- Train team members and end-users in data management, importation, and best practices.
- Maintain seamless accessibility between users and geological datasets.
- Lead projects involving large datasets and implement database systems at new sites.
Technical Skills
- Essential:
- Expertise in SQL, SQL Server Management Studio, and geological databases (e.g., Fusion, DataShed, Acquire).
- 5–10 years of database management experience in mining (major or mid-tier).
- Proficiency in GIS software (ArcGIS/QGIS) and 3D modeling (LeapFrog preferred).
- Advantageous:
- Python scripting, big data tools, and BI visualization (Power BI, Tableau).
Behavioral & Leadership Skills
- Strong leadership with ability to develop, delegate, and mentor multicultural teams.
- Detail-oriented, proactive (error prevention focus), and adaptable to exploration needs.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
Qualifications
- Bachelor in Geology (MSc in Geoscience preferred).
- 10–15 years in mineral exploration/development, including 5–10 years in geological database management.
Familiarity with exploration workflows, 3D modeling, and technical software.
